At Newman Catholic School we offer a high quality physical education curriculum which we hope will inspire all students to take part in regular physical activity and have opportunities to excel in competitive sport. We would like all students to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness; whilst benefiting from personal, social and emotional development. If you have any queries regarding PE or school sport, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Adrian Irving
Head of Physical Education
In Years 7, 8 and 9 students will gain in confidence and develop their techniques across a range of sports and physical activity. They will understand what makes a performance effective and how to analyse their own and others work. Students will be encouraged to take part in sport and physical activity out of school; they will understand that regular physical activity contributes to a healthy, active lifestyle with many long term health benefits.
This is an academically and practically demanding course. Students need to sustain an interest in learning the theoretical components of the course in addition to showing the commitment needed to develop their performance in a range of sports.
By studying this course a student will receive a well-rounded and full introduction in to the world of PE, Sport and Sport Science. They will develop an understanding of how the mind and body works in relation to performance in physical activity.
In the theory lessons students will cover the following topics:

Paper 2 –
