Congratulations to Newman Catholic School at the Spellbinding Secondary Schools Book Awards 2018

spellbinding1

Maddison Earnhardt, CliodhnaDenny, Molly Hagan, Jennifer Green, Lauren Graham, Cara Woods & Abigail Irwin have completed all eight Spellbinding books and were chosen to attend the Spellbinding Secondary Schools Book Awards 2018.

Spellbinding Secondary Schools Book Award and reading challenge has been running during the Spring and Summer term. The students have had to read 8 titles between them, from this the students have discussed and then voted for their favourite to win.

Spellbinding is all about fostering a love of reading and broadening reading horizons by being exposed to exciting new authors and titles. The award gives students aged 11-16 the opportunity to read, review and vote for their favourite book out of a shortlist of eight student-nominated titles. Cumbria County Council provided us with an interactive website which allowed our students to share their views and opinions with students from other schools across the county.

Newman Catholic School did fantastically well and came 2nd against 18 other schools from around the county. Newman Catholic School was highly commended by Cumbria County Council for the Spellbinding 2018 Film Poster, which was designed and drawn by our very own talented Maddison Earnhardt, Year 10.
